Stay away from CodeIgniter!

Posted: January 21, 2014 in Miscellaneous

Last few weeks I have worked on some project that was written in CodeIgniter. CodeIgniter is very popular PHP framework praised by all, and it is little less popular then Yii, but since I am few years now in Symfony both 1 and 2, this was the opportunity to check out and to learn something new.

I have expected a challenge, but after 10 days, thats it, I learned and used everything that CI has to offer. CI is so ridiculously lame excuse for framework that I do not know why is it called a framework at all?

And here is why – it is better to state what CI does have and support rather than what CI does not support or have but it should.

Lost in translation

By combining the Serbian pronunciation of the English language and Italian listening of it, I have, without any attention to do so, accidentally hit on the the Italian partner after the business meeting that we had. In order to avoid a confusion – the Italian partner is a dude living with his girlfriend!

Horn against red light

The crossroad near my building has a stop light with red light duration of over 5 minutes. I was in queue, third in a row of five cars. The nervous guy behind me after three minutes of red light, ringed his car horn expressing his anger on stop light – like if it going to turn green becase of it?!?! I couldn’t hold my self – I turned around and yield: “Dumb ass, it is a f**** machine, that does not helps!!!”. This guy was obviously a machine as well – he kept pressing his horn until red light turn into the green.

It is not big surprise why are things are so bad in Balkan. We are not living in Eastern Europe, or third world country, we are actually living in half-world with half-people. Therefore, poverty of the majority (both money and mind) and corrupted governments are something that can be easily understood.

And all comes actually from the common people, like me or you – we are the cause of it.

Several weeks ago my friend posted the quote on the her wall from the Nobel prize winner, Ivo Andrić. The quote is as follows (will try to translate as best as I can): “It is not a shame to fail in one big hope. The fact that such hope could even exists worth so much that the price paid by one big disappointment is not to high, no matter how big that disappointment was.”

Almost everyone liked that quote. Why shouldn’t they – it is made by highly appreciated writer, a Nobel prize winner?

Several days ago one of my friends asked me if he can sleep over for a weekend (he lives in Kragujevac) so he can spend some time with his girlfriend. He arrived few hours later, we had a cup of coffee.

If you were present few hours later that day, you could see us, standing in front of each other, he with a diamond ring asking for marriage and me laughing my ass out.

My best friend is diabetic. But she is very responsible about it. Except she drinks alcohol occasionally… A lot of alcohol… Two days ago, I was down town to kill few bears with her. Well, I was quite fast so I had to go home before midnight (Friday, work, tired), but she stayed with couple of friends until dawn. Tomorrow, she was not able to go to the training with me. And reason for that was, well, she reboot her body – like she really hit the reset button, her glucose level was below 1!!!
